Mary W. Campbell, B.A., C.G.*, Research Associate & Genealogist
Summary of Experience
Mary W. Campbell, B.A., English Literature, from the University of New Orleans, has over 20 years of experience in genealogical research with emphasis on the southern United States. Board-certified since 2005, Mrs. Campbell is a member of the National Genealogical Society, the Federation of Genealogical Societies, and the Association of Professional Genealogists.
Mrs. Campbell specializes in complex research problems that involve the analysis and correlation of direct, indirect, conflicting, or negative evidence to reach sound conclusions regarding identity and kinship. Recent projects have involved a variety of goals and approaches, including tracing ancestors of living individuals to their immigrant origins, resolving identity problems to separate ancestors from other same-name individuals of the same place and time, locating elusive female ancestors, and finding living descendants of deceased ancestors for DNA research or probate settlement.
Every project, no matter its goals, must meet the Genealogical Proof Standard (GPS) for research. The GPS consists of five elements:
a reasonably exhaustive search; complete and accurate source citations; analysis and correlation of the collected information; resolution of any conflicting evidence; and a soundly reasoned, coherently written conclusion
Located minutes from Clayton Library Center for Genealogical Research, the Harris County Archives, and Rice University's Fondren Library, Mrs. Campbell is available for document retrieval, transcription, and abstracting, as well as more extensive family history projects. She travels frequently for research in repositories such as the National Archives and Record Administration (NARA) Southwest Region in Dallas, the Texas State Archives & Library, the Texas General Land Office, the Perry Castaneda Library, and the Center for American History at the University of Texas in Austin as well as local court houses, libraries, archives, and respositories across the South. The Family History Library in Salt Lake City is also a frequent destination.
Mrs. Campbell is a Board-Certified Genealogist (#463).
