FIRE Combustible. Many reactions may cause fire or explosion. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.
NO open flames.
Powder, water spray, foam, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION Finely dispersed particles form explosive mixtures in air.
Prevent deposition of dust; closed system, dust explosion-proof electrical equipment and lighting.
In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water.
EXPOSURE
PREVENT DISPERSION OF DUST! STRICT HYGIENE!

  • INHALATION
    		• Blue lips or finger nails. Blue skin. Dizziness. Headache. Nausea. Shortness of breath.
    		Local exhaust or breathing protection.
    		Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention.
  • SKIN
    		• MAY BE ABSORBED! Redness (further see Inhalation).
    		Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
    		Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap. Refer for medical attention.
  • EYES
    		• Redness. Pain.
    		Safety goggles, or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
    		First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
  • INGESTION
    		• (further see Inhalation).
    		Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
    		Rinse mouth. Give a slurry of activated charcoal in water to drink. Induce vomiting (ONLY IN CONSCIOUS PERSONS!). Refer for medical attention.
    SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
    Sweep spilled substance into sealable containers. Carefully collect remainder, then remove to safe place (extra personal protection: complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus).
    		Separated from food and feedstuffs, and reducing materials.
    		Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

    PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
     YELLOW TO GREEN CRYSTALS , WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR.

    PHYSICAL DANGERS:
     Dust explosion possible if in powder or granular form, mixed with air.

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
     The substance decomposes on heating or on burning producing toxic and corrosive fumes (nitrogen oxides, chlorine - see ICSC # 0126, hydrogen chloride, phosgene - see ICSC # 0007). Reacts violently with reducing materials, causing fire and explosion hazard.

    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):

    		ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
     The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation and through the skin.

    INHALATION RISK:
     A harmful contamination of the air can be reached very quickly on evaporation of this substance at 20°C.

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
     The substance irritates the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract. The substance may cause effects on the blood , resulting in formation of methaemoglobin, cyanosis, brain damage and kidney failure (see Notes).

    EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
     The substance may have effects on the blood: methemoglobinemia (see short-term exposure), liver, kidney and spleen.

         		This substance may be hazardous to the environment; special attention should be given to the water. In the food chain important to humans, bioaccumulation takes place, specifically in fish.
    NOTES
    TLV (as para-nitrochlorobenzene): 0.1 ppm; O.6 mg/m3 (skin) (ACGIH 1991-1992). Explosive limits are unknown in literature. Depending on the degree of exposure, periodic medical examination is indicated. Specific treatment is necessary in case of poisoning with this substance; the appropriate means with instructions must be available.
