FIRE Combustible. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.
NO open flames. NO contact with strong oxidants.
Powder, water spray, foam, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION Above 66°C explosive vapour/air mixtures may be formed.
Above 66°C use a closed system, ventilation, and explosion-proof electrical equipment.
In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water.
EXPOSURE
PREVENT DISPERSION OF DUST! STRICT HYGIENE!

  • INHALATION
    		• Burning sensation. Cough. Drowsiness. Headache. Nausea. Shortness of breath. Vomiting.
    		Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection.
    		Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention.
  • SKIN
    		• Redness.
    		Protective gloves.
    		Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap. Refer for medical attention.
  • EYES
    		• Pain.
    		Face shield.
    		First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
  • INGESTION
    		• Burning sensation. Convulsions. Diarrhoea (further see Inhalation).
    		Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work. Wash hands before eating.
    		Give plenty of water to drink. Refer for medical attention.
    SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
    Sweep spilled substance into containers; if appropriate, moisten first to prevent dusting. Carefully collect remainder, then remove to safe place (extra personal protection: P2 filter respirator for harmful particles).
    		Provision to contain effluent from fire extinguishing. Separated from strong oxidants, acids, food and feedstuffs. Keep in a well-ventilated room.
    		Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

    PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
     COLOURLESS TO WHITE CRYSTALS WITH A STRONG ODOUR.

    PHYSICAL DANGERS:
     The vapour is heavier than air.

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
     On combustion, forms toxic and corrosive fumes including phosgene, hydrogen chloride. The substance decomposes on contact with acids or acid fumes producing highly toxic fumes. Reacts with strong oxidants.

    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
     TLV: 10 ppm; 60 mg/m3 (as TWA) (ACGIH 1991-1992).
    MAK: 50 ppm; 300 mg/m3; Pregnancy: C (1993).
    OSHA PEL: TWA 75 ppm (450 mg/m3)
    NIOSH REL: Ca See Appendix A

    		ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
     The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation and by ingestion.

    INHALATION RISK:
     A harmful contamination of the air will be reached rather slowly on evaporation of this substance at 20°C.

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
     The vapour irritates the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract. The substance may cause effects on the blood and central nervous system , resulting in impaired functions and haemolytic anemia. Medical observation is indicated.

    EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
     The substance may have effects on the liver, kidneys and blood. This substance is possibly carcinogenic to humans.
