FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Explodes on heating. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.
NO open flames, NO sparks, and NO smoking. NO contact with hot surfaces.
Water in large amounts, alcohol-resistant foam, powder.
EXPLOSION Risk of fire and explosion on contact with many substances (see Chemicals Dangers).

In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water. Combat fire from a sheltered position.
EXPOSURE
AVOID ALL CONTACT!

  • INHALATION
    		• Blue lips or finger nails. Blue skin. Cough. Dizziness. Headache. Sore throat. Weakness.
    		Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection.
    		Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention. See Notes.
  • SKIN
    		• MAY BE ABSORBED! Redness. Pain (further see Inhalation).
    		Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
    		Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap. Refer for medical attention.
  • EYES
    		• Redness. Pain. Severe deep burns.
    		Face shield or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
    		First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
  • INGESTION
    		• Nausea. Shortness of breath. Vomiting. See Notes (further see Inhalation).
    		Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
    		Rinse mouth. Refer for medical attention. See Notes.
    SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
    Sweep spilled substance into sealable containers; if appropriate, moisten first to prevent dusting. Carefully collect remainder, then remove to safe place (extra personal protection: P2 filter respirator for harmful particles).
    		Fireproof. Separated from incompatible materials (see Chemical Dangers). Cool. Dry. Well closed.

    PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
     VERY HYGROSCOPIC WHITE NEEDLES OR FLAKES.

    PHYSICAL DANGERS:

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
     May explode on heating above 70°C or when exposed to open flame. The substance decomposes rapidly at room temperature, especially in presence of moisture and carbon dioxide, and violently on heating producing toxic fumes including nitrogen oxides. The solution in water is a weak base. Reacts violently with oxidants, metals such as finely divided zinc, some metal oxides, copper(II)sulfate and phosphorus chlorides causing fire and explosion hazard.

    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
     TLV not established.


    		ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
     The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation, through the skin and by ingestion.

    INHALATION RISK:
     No indication can be given about the rate in which a harmful concentration in the air is reached on evaporation of this substance at 20°C.

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
     The substance irritates the skin and the respiratory tract, and is corrosive to the eyes. The substance may cause effects on the blood , resulting in formation of methaemoglobin. The effects may be delayed. Medical observation is indicated.

    EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
     Repeated or prolonged contact may cause skin sensitization. The substance may have effects on the blood , resulting in formation of methaemoglobin and the consequent anaemia.

         		The substance is very toxic to aquatic organisms.
    N O T E S
    Depending on the degree of exposure, periodic medical examination is indicated. The symptoms of nausea, vomiting and cyanosis do not become manifest until several hours have past. Specific treatment is necessary in case of poisoning with this substance; the appropriate means with instructions must be available. The relation between odour and the occupational exposure limit cannot be indicated. Decomposition during storage may cause a build-up of pressure in the container.
