FIRE Combustible. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.
NO open flames.
Powder, water spray, foam, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION Finely dispersed particles form explosive mixtures in air.
Prevent deposition of dust; closed system, dust explosion-proof electrical equipment and lighting.
In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water. Combat fire from a sheltered position.
EXPOSURE
PREVENT DISPERSION OF DUST! STRICT HYGIENE!

  • INHALATION
    		• Blue lips or finger nails. Blue skin. Headache. Dizziness. Nausea. Confusion. Convulsions. Unconsciousness
    		Local exhaust or breathing protection.
    		Fresh air, rest. Artificial respiration if indicated. Refer for medical attention.
  • SKIN
    		• MAY BE ABSORBED! Redness (see Inhalation).
    		Protective gloves.
    		Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap. Refer for medical attention.
  • EYES
    		• Redness.
    		Face shield.
    		First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
  • INGESTION
    		• (Further see Inhalation).
    		Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work. Wash hands before eating.
    		Rinse mouth. Induce vomiting (ONLY IN CONSCIOUS PERSONS!). Refer for medical attention.
    SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
    Consult an expert! Ventilation. Do NOT wash away into sewer. Sweep spilled substance into containers; if appropriate, moisten first to prevent dusting. Carefully collect remainder, then remove to safe place (extra personal protection: chemical protection suit including self-contained breathing apparatus).
    		Separated from strong bases, food and feedstuffs, oxidants, reducing agents. Well closed. Keep in a well-ventilated room.
    		Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

    PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
     YELLOW CRYSTALS , WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR.

    PHYSICAL DANGERS:
     Dust explosion possible if in powder or granular form, mixed with air.

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
     May explode on heating. The substance decomposes on heating producing toxic and corrosive fumes including nitrogen oxides even in absence of air. Reacts with strong bases, oxidants and reducing agents.

    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
     TLV: ppm; 1.5 mg/m3 (as TWA) (skin) (ACGIH 1996).


    		ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
     The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation, through the skin and by ingestion.

    INHALATION RISK:
     Evaporation at 20°C is negligible; a harmful concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly.

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
     The substance irritates the eyes and the skin. The substance may cause effects on the central nervous system, cardiovascular system, and the blood , resulting in the formation of methaemoglobin. The effects may be delayed.

    EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
     The substance may have effects on the central nervous system, cardiovascular system and blood , resulting in formation of methaemoglobin.

    Use of alcoholic beverages enhances the harmful effect. Depending on the degree of exposure, periodic medical examination is indicated. Specific treatment is necessary in case of poisoning with this substance; the appropriate means with instructions must be available. Also consult ICSC # 0465.
