PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
COLOURLESS CRYSTALS.
PHYSICAL DANGERS:
Dust explosion possible if in powder or granular form, mixed with air.
CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance decomposes
on heating and
on burning
producing toxic fumes (nitrogen, sulfur oxides).
Reacts with strong oxidants, acids and oxidizable materials.
OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
TLV: ppm; 1 mg/m3 (ACGIH 1991-1992).
PDK: 0.5 mg/m3 P (USSR 1991).
OSHA PEL: TWA 5 mg/m3
NIOSH REL: TWA 5 mg/m3
NIOSH IDLH: 100 mg/m3
|
ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body
by inhalation of its aerosol and
by ingestion.
INHALATION RISK:
Evaporation at 20°C is negligible; a harmful concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly by spraying or dispersing.
EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance
irritates
the eyes,
the skin and
the respiratory tract.
EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
Repeated or prolonged contact may cause skin sensitization.
The substance may have effects on the thyroid, liver.
Animal tests show that this substance possibly causes toxic effects upon human reproduction.
