FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Not combustible but enhances combustion of other substances. Many reactions may cause fire or explosion. See Notes.
NO contact with flammable substances.
In case of fire in the surroundings: all extinguishing agents allowed.
EXPLOSION Risk of fire and explosion in gaseous mixtures with hydrocarbons. Mixture with water or water vapour explodes violently on spark ignition.

In case of fire: keep cylinder cool by spraying with water but NO direct contact with water. Combat fire from a sheltered position.
EXPOSURE
AVOID ALL CONTACT!

  • INHALATION
    		• Headache.
    		Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection.
    		Fresh air, rest. Half-upright position. Artificial respiration if indicated. Refer for medical attention.
  • SKIN
    		• ON CONTACT WITH LIQUID: FROSTBITE.
    		Cold-insulating gloves.
    		ON FROSTBITE: rinse with plenty of water, do NOT remove clothes. Refer for medical attention.
  • EYES
    		• Severe deep burns.
    		Face shield or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
    		First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
  • INGESTION



    • SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
    Evacuate danger area! Consult an expert! Ventilation. Keep combustible material away. Stop leak if possible without risk (extra personal protection: complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus).
    		Fireproof. Separated from combustible and reducing substances. Cool. Dry.

    PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
     COLOURLESS COMPRESSED GAS , WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR. YELLOWISH-BROWN WHEN LIQUID.

    PHYSICAL DANGERS:
     The gas is heavier than air.

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
     The substance decomposes on heating above 250°C producing toxic fumes (fluorine - see ICSC # 0046). The substance is a strong oxidant and reacts violently with combustible and reducing materials. Reacts explosively with hydrogen sulfide at ambient temperature, with chlorine, bromine or iodine on warming. Attacks mercury. Explodes on contact with steam. Reaction of oxygen difluoride with non-metals such as red phosphorous and boron powder and silica, alumina or similar surface-active solids is exothermic and may be explosive.

    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
     TLV: 0.05 ppm; 0.11 mg/m3 (as CEILING) (ACGIH 1991-1992).
    PDK not established.
    OSHA PEL: TWA 0.05 ppm (0.1 mg/m3)
    NIOSH REL: C 0.05 ppm (0.1 mg/m3)
    NIOSH IDLH: 0.5 ppm


    		ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
     The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation.

    INHALATION RISK:
     A harmful concentration of this gas in the air will be reached very quickly on loss of containment.

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
     The substance severely irritates the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract. Inhalation of the substance may cause lung oedema (see Notes). Exposure at low levels may result in severe headache.

    NOTES
    Density of the liquid at boiling point: 1.90 kg/l. The applying occupational exposure limit value should not be exceeded during any part of the working exposure. The symptoms of lung oedema often do not become manifest until a few hours have passed and they are aggravated by physical effort. Rest and medical observation are therefore essential. Immediate administration of an appropriate spray, by a doctor or a person authorized by him/her, should be considered.
