PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
YELLOW CRYSTALS.
PHYSICAL DANGERS:
CHEMICAL DANGERS:
May explosively decompose on shock, friction, or concussion.
Upon heating, toxic fumes are formed.
Reacts
violently with reducing agents
causing fire and explosion hazard.
Reacts with heavy metals.
Explodes on heating to 240°C.
OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
TLV: ppm; 0.5 mg/m3 (skin) (ACGIH 1991-1992).
PDK not established.
OSHA PEL: TWA 1.5 mg/m3 skin
NIOSH REL: TWA 0.5 mg/m3 skin
NIOSH IDLH: 500 mg/m3
|
ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body
by inhalation of its aerosol,
through the skin and
by ingestion.
INHALATION RISK:
Evaporation at 20°C is negligible; a harmful concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly.
EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance
irritates
the eyes,
the skin, and
the respiratory tract.
The substance may cause effects on the blood
, resulting in hemolysis,
formation of methaemoglobin.
Exposure may result in death.
The effects may be delayed (see Notes).
Medical observation is indicated.
EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
The substance may have effects on the liver, blood and eyes
, resulting in jaundice, anaemia, cataract.
