FIRE Combustible. Many reactions may cause fire or explosion. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.
NO open flames. NO contact with incompatible substances (see Chemical Dangers). NO contact with hot surfaces.
Alcohol-resistant foam, powder, carbon dioxide, NO water.
EXPLOSION Above 88°C explosive vapour/air mixtures may be formed.
Above 88°C use a closed system, ventilation, and explosion-proof electrical equipment.
In case of fire: cool drums, etc., by spraying with water but avoid contact of the substance with water.
EXPOSURE
PREVENT GENERATION OF MISTS! STRICT HYGIENE!
IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR!
  • INHALATION
    		• Burning sensation. Cough. Shortness of breath. Sore throat.
    		Avoid inhalation of fine dust and mist. Closed system and ventilation.
    		Fresh air, rest. Half-upright position. Artificial respiration if indicated. Refer for medical attention. See Notes.
  • SKIN
    		• Redness. Skin burns. Burning sensation. Pain.
    		Protective gloves.
    		Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse skin with plenty of water or shower. Refer for medical attention. Wear protective gloves when administering first aid.
  • EYES
    		• Redness. Pain. Severe deep burns.
    		Safety goggles.
    		First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
  • INGESTION
    		• Corrosive. Abdominal cramps. Abdominal pain. Weakness (further see Inhalation).
    		Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
    		Rinse mouth. Rest. Refer for medical attention. See Notes.
    SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
    Collect leaking and spilled liquid in sealable containers as far as possible. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place. Do NOT wash away into sewer. NEVER direct water jet on liquid (extra personal protection: complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus).
    		Provision to contain effluent from fire extinguishing. Separated from food and feedstuffs and incompatible substances (see Chemical Dangers). Cool. Dry. Ventilation along the floor.
    		Airtight. Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

    PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
     FUMING COLOURLESS LIQUID , WITH PUNGENT ODOUR.

    PHYSICAL DANGERS:
     The vapour is heavier than air.

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
     On contact with hot surfaces or flames this substance decomposes forming highly toxic and corrosive gases (phosgene and HCl). The substance decomposes violently on heating or on contact with alkalis, amines, other basic compounds, and DMSO , causing fire and explosion hazard. Reacts violently with strong oxidants. Reacts with water or steam producing heat, and toxic and corrosive fumes. Attacks many metals forming flammable hydrogen gas (see ICSC # 0001), also on contact with metal salts, alcohols, amines and strong bases.

     The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation and by ingestion.

    INHALATION RISK:
     Evaporation at 20°C is negligible; a harmful concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly.

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
     Tear drawing. The substance is corrosive to the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract. Inhalation of the vapour or aerosol may cause lung oedema (see Notes).

    N O T E S
    Reacts violently with fire extinguishing agents such as water. The symptoms of lung oedema often do not become manifest until a few hours have passed and they are aggravated by physical effort. Rest and medical observation are therefore essential. Immediate administration of an appropriate spray, by a doctor or a person authorized by him/her, should be considered. Do NOT take working clothes home.
