PHYSICAL DANGERS: The vapour is heavier than air and may travel along the ground; distant ignition possible. CHEMICAL DANGERS: The substance decomposes on heating producing toxic and irritating fumes including hydrogen chloride and phosgene. Reacts on contact with water or steam producing toxic and corrosive hydrogen. Reacts violently with strong oxidants causing fire and explosion hazard. Attacks many metals especially in the presence of moisture. OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs): MAK not established.
