FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Highly flammable.
NO open flames, NO sparks, and NO smoking.
Powder, AFFF, foam, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION Vapour/air mixtures are explosive.
Closed system, ventilation, explosion-proof electrical equipment and lighting. Prevent build-up of electrostatic charges (e.g., by grounding). Do NOT use compressed air for filling, discharging, or handling. Use non-sparking handtools.
In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water.
EXPOSURE
AVOID EXPOSURE OF (PREGNANT) WOMEN! AVOID EXPOSURE OF ADOLESCENTS AND CHILDREN!
IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR!
  • INHALATION
    		• Confusion. Dizziness. Drowsiness. Headache. Nausea. Unconsciousness.
    		Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection.
    		Fresh air, rest. Half-upright position. Refer for medical attention.
  • SKIN
    		• Dry skin.
    		Protective gloves.
    		Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse skin with plenty of water or shower.
  • EYES
    		• Redness. Pain.
    		Safety spectacles.
    		First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
  • INGESTION
    		• (further see Inhalation).
    		Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
    		Rinse mouth. Do NOT induce vomiting. Give plenty of water to drink. Refer for medical attention.
    SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
    Ventilation. Collect leaking liquid in sealable containers. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place. Do NOT wash away into sewer (extra personal protection: A/P2 filter respirator for organic vapour and harmful dust).
    		Fireproof. Separated from strong acids, oxidants. Well closed.

    PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
     COLOURLESS LIQUID , WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR.

    PHYSICAL DANGERS:
     The vapour mixes well with air, explosive mixtures are easily formed. As a result of flow, agitation, etc., electrostatic charges can be generated.

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
     Reacts violently with oxidants and strong acids such as nitric- and sulfuric acids, causing fire and explosion hazard. Attacks plastics and rubber.

    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):

    		ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
     The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its vapour, through the skin and by ingestion.

    INHALATION RISK:
     A harmful contamination of the air can be reached very quickly on evaporation of this substance at 20°C.

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
     The substance irritates the eyes. Swallowing the liquid may cause aspiration into the lungs with the risk of chemical pneumonitis. The substance may cause effects on the central nervous system. Exposure could cause lowering of consciousness. Exposure could cause cardiac arrythmias.

    EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
     Repeated or prolonged contact with skin may cause dermatitis. The substance may have effects on the nervous system, liver and kidneys. May cause reproductive toxicity in humans.

    CAS number for 641 Thinner is 64742-89-3. The physical properties are dependent on the formulations of the product. Use of alcoholic beverages enhances the harmful effect. Depending on the degree of exposure, periodic medical examination is indicated. Petroleum 50 thinner is a mixture of paraffins, monocycloparaffins, condensed cycloparaffins, benzene, toluene and alkyl benzenes. In the EC the product may be labeled with F, Xn; R: 11-20; S: 9-16-29-33. Also consult ICSC # 0078, toluene.
